Be part of the renewable energy revolution

Local renewables are fast becoming the most affordable way to supply energy, providing a unique opportunity to regenerate neighbourhoods, create long-term economic value and build climate resilience.

For Places and Place Makers

Transform places into net-zero energy communities

We bring Place Makers and Impact Investors together to make the most of local renewables.

Our funded community microgrids help housing providers, housing associations, community land trusts, cohousing communities and neighbourhood partnerships deliver affordable net-zero homes for a new generation of environmentally-minded customers while creating tangible long-term benefits for each place.

Who we’ve helped

The Water Lilies Energy Community

The Place and Place Maker

Water Lilies, a new development of 33 sustainable homes sitting atop an old water reservoir in Kings Weston, Bristol by Bright Green Futures, an ethical, multi-award-winning developer creating eco self-build communities.

The Solution

The project has installed a new substation and private electricity network, a 120kW solar array, a 444 kWh community battery and 7 electric vehicle chargers; all linked by Cepro energy communities software. The project has invested in Kirk Hill wind farm in Scotland to meet residual energy demand for the first 25 years.

The Impact Investor

Bristol Energy Cooperative (BEC) a ground-breaking community benefit society founded in 2011. BEC has over 9MW of solar PV under community ownership and has provided over £250,000 of community benefit payments to local organisations since inception.

The Outcome

Water Lilies residents are largely autonomous in energy use and protected from volatile energy prices while Bristol Energy Cooperative has been able to put over £400,000 in capital to work providing a stable return to investors over 30 years.

Funded by the European Regional Development Fund and managed by the West of England Combined Authority.
